Prefab pools in Alimos, Elliniko and Argyroupoli
Alimos, Elliniko and Argyroupoli are densely built southern suburbs, where pools fit into the yards of detached houses and maisonettes, often between apartment blocks. Argyroupoli climbs to the foothills of Mount Hymettus, while Alimos reaches down to the sea.
Elliniko is changing with the redevelopment of the old airport, and the surrounding area will have construction sites for several more years.
What we watch for in Alimos, Elliniko and Argyroupoli
- Dust from construction sites: near the redevelopment, dust ends up in the water. A cover when the pool is not in use, and backwashing the filter when the pressure rises, keep the water clear.
- Shade from surrounding apartment blocks: before fixing the position, we check where neighbouring buildings cast their shade, and not only in July: in spring and autumn the sun is lower and shadows are longer.
- Runoff from Hymettus: in the higher parts of Argyroupoli, rainwater flows down from the plots above. A drainage channel on the uphill side of the pool leads it away from the water.

Questions
Is a pool worth it in a yard shaded by apartment blocks?
If the water gets sun at midday and for a good few hours in the afternoon, yes. At the site survey we check the shadows and suggest the position and size that keep the pool in the sun.
