Prefab pools with steel panels and liner
A prefab pool goes in quickly, with no formwork, and gives nothing away in quality or lifespan. It is the only pool we build, and we build it all over Greece.
In short: A prefab pool has walls made of 2 mm galvanized steel panels, 1.10 or 1.50 m high, lined with a watertight 1.5–2 mm PVC liner that carries a 10-year written warranty. It goes up quickly, with no formwork, and below 50 m² of water surface a small-scale works approval is enough instead of a building permit. Spartakos Pools builds prefab pools in Athens, Attica, on the islands and across Greece.
How a prefab pool is built
- Excavation and base. We prepare the base that the panels are anchored to.
- Steel panels. The walls are formed from galvanized steel panels, 2 mm thick. Their height, 1.10 m or 1.50 m, sets the depth, and the panel layout sets the shape of the pool. Each panel is anchored to the base with four 12/15 expansion anchors and joined to the next one with galvanized M8 × 2.5 bolts.
- Support buttresses. Every joint gets a support buttress made of 4 mm steel, hot-dip galvanized at 600 °C. It is fixed with two anchors and has an adjuster that keeps the panels perfectly vertical.
- Pipework and equipment. The pipes to the plant room, the return inlets and the lighting go in. See pool equipment.
- PVC liner. A 1.5 or 2 mm PVC membrane lines the whole pool and makes it watertight. It comes in many colours and patterns. See pool lining.
Why a prefab pool
- Fast installation. The panels arrive ready-made, so there is no waiting for formwork or for anything to dry.
- Fits where others can't. The panels travel piece by piece and pass through narrow passages, up stairs and onto ferries.
- Watertight without cracking. The liner is flexible and keeps the pool watertight even if the ground moves.
- No building permit up to 50 m². By its very nature, a prefab pool meets the basic conditions of the small-scale works approval.
Steel or polyester panels
Besides galvanized steel panels, there are also polyester panels. The choice depends on the ground, the size and the position of the pool. Either way, the pool can have a skimmer or an overflow channel.
A prefab pool without a building permit
A prefab pool of up to 50 m² can be built with a small-scale works approval instead of a building permit, as long as it meets specific conditions and an engineer signs a declaration before work begins. See the conditions in detail.

Questions
How deep is a prefab pool?
The panels are 1.10 m or 1.50 m high, and that sets the depth of the pool.
How long does a prefab pool last?
The panels are galvanized steel and the support buttresses are hot-dip galvanized, so they stand up to moisture. The liner has a written 10-year warranty.
