Volumes are approximate, with a water level of about 1.0 m and 1.4 m respectively. The surface area also counts towards the annual deemed living expenses for a private pool: see pool legislation.
Small pools: up to 20 m²
They suit city yards and townhouses. With 1.10 m panels the water warms up quickly and the excavation is small. See the small pool for your yard.
Medium pools: 20 to 50 m²
The most common size for detached houses and holiday homes. An 8 × 4 m pool has plenty of room for swimming strokes and play. Up to 50 m², a small-scale works approval is enough, so we make sure the water surface stays under the limit.
Large pools: over 50 m²
For villas, estates and holiday accommodation. They need a building permit, and for pools over 60 m² we recommend an overflow, which keeps the surface clean when many people are swimming.
How to choose a size
- Who will swim: for swimming strokes, go for a length of at least 8 m; for play with children, a greater width.
- The space around it: leave room to walk around the pool, for sun loungers and for the plant room.
- The water: a larger volume means more water to fill it and more chemicals, which matters on the islands.
