Pool equipment: plant room and pumps
The pump and the filter are the minimum electrical and mechanical equipment that keeps the water clean, clear, chemically balanced and healthy.
Conventional plant room
A conventional plant room is the best place for the equipment. It sits next to the pool and measures about 3 × 2 × 2 m. All the built-in pipework ends there for the necessary connections. It needs easy access for inspection and maintenance, good ventilation and lighting.
Compact plant room
Small pools use a compact plant room, which is also a condition for the small-scale works approval. It saves space and needs no separate room.
Pool pumps
The circulation pumps, together with the filter, are the heart of the pool. A good pump:
- Moves large volumes of water at low pressure.
- Resists corrosion and the chemicals in pool water.
- Delivers a high flow rate with as little horsepower as possible.
Pumps come in plastic or cast iron, single-phase or three-phase, self-priming, with or without a pre-filter. The choice is made through a study by experienced technicians, because every pool has different needs.
Equipment by pool type
An overflow pool also needs a balance tank. A skimmer pool draws the water directly through the openings in its walls.
