Prefab pools in Larissa
Larissa is the largest city in Thessaly, built on the banks of the Pineios in the middle of the plain. Pools are built at detached houses in the suburbs and surrounding villages, often next to farmland.
The 2023 floods from Storm Daniel showed how exposed low-lying plots can be, and this changes how a pool is designed in the area.
What we watch for in Larissa
- Plant room up high: on plots that have flooded in the past, the plant room and the pool's electrical panel go at the highest point, so they do not end up under water.
- Clay soils: on the plain the soil is often clay: it swells when wet and shrinks in dry spells. The base for the panels is laid on a properly prepared, compacted sub-base.
- Crop spraying: when neighbouring fields are sprayed, cover the pool so the wind does not carry dust and droplets into the water.

What should we watch for if the plot has flooded before?
Tell us from the start how high the water reached. The pool and plant room are positioned accordingly, and if the pool floods, its water needs cleaning and chemical rebalancing before it is used again.
