Prefab pools in Katerini and Pieria
Pieria stretches between Mount Olympus and the Thermaic Gulf. Katerini has detached houses with yards, and the coast, from Paralia Katerinis and Olympiaki Akti to Leptokarya and Platamonas, is full of holiday homes and rentals.
In summer the coast fills with visitors, many from the Balkan countries, so quite a few pools serve holiday accommodation.
What we watch for in Katerini and Pieria
- The sun sets early behind Olympus: in Litochoro and the foothill villages the mountain lies to the west, and the sun disappears behind it earlier in the afternoon. The pool goes where it gets sun from the morning.
- Summer storms: near Olympus, afternoon thunderstorms in summer are not unusual. Afterwards, the skimmer basket is cleaned and pH and chlorine are checked.
- Depth markings at rentals: in a pool used by guests, clearly visible depth markings and a no-diving instruction help safety.
Transport and construction
Katerini lies right on the Athens–Thessaloniki motorway, so materials are transported by road from Athens without detours.
