Prefab pools in Chios
On Chios, Kampos, south of the town, is full of walled estates with mansions and citrus orchards behind high stone walls.
In the south of the island, the medieval mastic villages such as Pyrgi, Mesta and Olympi are densely built, so pools go on the plots around them.
What we watch for on Chios
- Estate walls and sun: the high walls of Kampos provide privacy and shelter from the wind, but they cast shade. The pool goes near the estate's north wall, so it gets the southern sun.
- Thymiana stone: the Kampos mansions are built with stone from Thymiana. Surrounding paving in similar tones ties the pool to the buildings.
- Mastic villages: the villages are traditional settlements with special rules. For plots around them, the engineer checks whether they are inside or outside the settlement and which rules apply.

Where the sun clears the wall for most of the day, usually on the north side of the estate, which faces south. At the site survey we check the shadows in spring and autumn, when the sun is lower.
