What we watch for on Andros

Rafina–Gavrio: the truck with the materials crosses on the ferry from Rafina in about two hours, so transport is simpler to organize than for the islands further south.
Cavo Doro: the strait between Evia and Andros is one of the windiest passages in the Aegean, and in winter sailing bans are not unusual. The schedule leaves room for delays.
Schist slabs: the local schist, which covers the traditional roofs, also suits the paving around the pool. Its natural roughness helps keep wet feet from slipping.
